Nest has some of the best smart home products on the market but Amazon Alexa is by far the most prevalent smart home voice assistant and most commonly recognized smart home device, Google is putting in a great effort to catch up with it’s new lineup of Google Home Devices like the Google Home Mini and Google Home Hub. Nest & Alexa are direct competitors, but Google & Nest are directly integrate meaning there are some nest device features that work much better with Google Home than with Alexa. The nest lock, and nest security system don’t work with Alexa but they do work with all Google Home devices.
Does the nest smart lock work with Google Home?
Yes, the nest x yale smart lock currently works with any of the Google Home devices like the Google Home Mini, Google Home or Google Home Hub to control your nest x yale Smart Lock with voice.
The nest x yale smart lock even works with your Google Assistant on your phone meaning that you can have full voice control of your smart lock without even needing a smart speaker.
With voice control of your smart lock you can lock your door with you voice, or ask your Google Home device the status of your lock to see if it’s locked. Nest x Yale Lock Google Home Voice Commands:
“Ok, Google lock the front door.”
This will lock your front door and Google Home will respond with either:
“The front door is already locked” or “You got it, locking the front door…..the front door has been locked”
“Ok, Google is my front door locked?”
Google will then check if your door is locked and respond with “The Front Door is Locked” or “The Front Door is unlocked”
Can you unlock your Nest x Yale lock with voice?
No, for security reasons you can’t unlock your Nest x Yale Lock with voice. This prevents someone trying to yell through a window to unlock your front door. You can still try if you want though.
“Ok, Google unlock my front door.”
Google will then say “Sorry I can’t unlock the front door with voice.”
What google home device should you get for your home?
If you are looking to add google home voice control to your home and nest x yale smart lock. I suggest you either stick to the Google Home Mini which provides the best value at typically around $50 or if you want full screen video get a Google Home Hub which has a 10” screen and will allow you to view your nest hello doorbell and nest cameras. If you don’t have smart cameras or a smart doorbell and don’t plan to expand in the future the Google Home Mini will serve you well. If you already have several nest cameras or doorbells it’s most likely worth the extra investment to get the Google Home Hub.

The nest hello smart doorbell, nest x yale smart lock, nest cameras, nest security system and nest thermostat all work with Google Home we cover each of the nest devices that works with Google Home and how you can control them with your voice using Google Home Voice Commands on either your google assistant or a compatible Google Home device. The most used google home commands in my home are asking it a search question, controlling my smart thermostat or my smart lighting. Living in Chicago there is nothing like telling google Home to turn up the heat on a cold morning before getting out of bed.
Nest Thermostat Works With Google Home
The nest thermostat works with Google Home. With the nest thermostat & Google Home you can control your nest thermostat with the Google Home voice commands below. To get your nest products to work with your Google Home devices you will need to have the Google Home App, Google Assistant App & Nest App, which are all available both on the android and iOS stores.
"Ok Google, set the thermostat to 73 degrees"

Nest Hello Smart Video Doorbell Works With Google Home Hub.
The nest hello video video doorbell works with the Google Home Hub to show you live video feeds from your nest hello smart doorbell using Google Voice commands.
To enable the live video feed once the your nest hello doorbell and Goole Home Hub are set up. Use the following Google Home Hub Voice Commands
"Ok Google, show me my front door."
or
"Ok Google, show me [name of doorbell in nest app]."
The 10” Google Home Hub screen will display the nest hellow live camera feed but but does not currently support two way communication through the hub to the nest hello doorbell. This means you will be able to see and hear the person on your smart doorbell but you will not be able to talk with them through the nest cameras. If you want to have 2 way communication abilities you would need to either use your phone or a compatible tablet such as an ipad or android tablet.
Connecting the Nest Hello to the Google Home Hub is relatively quick and done all through the Google Home App & Device. You will just need to login to your nest account to connect the two devices when prompted. The most common configuration of the nest hello and google home hub is placing it in a central area like a kitchen so you can see who is at your front door before you answer it.
Nest Video Cameras Work With Google Home Hub
The nest cameras work with Google Home Hub to show you live video feeds from your nest cameras using Google Home Hub voice commands. The Google Home Hub has a 10” touch screen to display the live camera feed. The screen will display both indoor and outdoor nest camera feeds but but does not currently support two way communication through the hub to the nest cameras. This means you will be able to see and hear the person on camera but you will not be able to talk with them through the nest cameras.
To enable the live video feed once your nest hello and Google Home hub are set up just say.
“Ok Google, show me my backyard cameras"
or
"Ok , show me [name of nest hello doorbell in nest app]."
The integration between the nest cameras and the google home hub is a great way to pull up live video of your cameras without the need for your phone. The most common use for connecting nest cameras to the Google Home Hub is to use the the Hub as a baby monitor. It could also be used in an office to watch streaming cameras at a front door, or if you live in a walk up apartment and want to know who is at the front door before you buzz them in.
What Light Switches Work With Google Home?

Do Nest Smoke Detectors Work With Google Home?
No, nest smoke detectors are not currently supported by Google Home . There is no google home voice commands or control of the nest smoke detectors as of November 2018.
It would be nice if the Nest Smoke alarms would work with Google Home devices in case of a fire to provide additional annunciation or warning of a fire when the nest smoke alarms are triggered by carbon monoxide, smoke or fire.
Does the Nest Security System Work With Google Home?
Yes, the nest secure security system works with Google Home. The nest security system allows you to control your nest security system with your voice using any compatible google home device. If you have a google home, google home hub or google home mini you can arm your security system using the google home device and your voice. For security purposes you cannot disarm your nest security system with your voice.
You can say “Ok Google, set my security system to away and guarding” and the nest security system will be armed. You cannot disarm the nest secure system with your voice for security reasons.
