Sonos Amp vs Sonos Connect : Amp - Features
The Sonos Amp is an updated version of the Sonos Connect: Amp with more power, more features and thinner profile.
The Sonos Amp is designed to drive built in or freestanding speakers but can also be used in a home theater audio configuration to power a Sonos home theater. The new Sonos Amp is also designed to provide superior sound when combined with built in Sonos Architectural Speakers which can be mounted in wall, in ceiling or outdoors.

Sonos Amp vs Sonos Connect : Amp - Summary
If you are looking to drive more than 2 speakers ideally you want to use the New Sonos Amp for your built in speaker installation. The older Sonos Connect: Amp can work with up to 4 speakers but only offers 55W of power per channel vs the 125W of power per channel that the Sonos Amp is capable of producing. The Sonos Amp also allows you to use between 2-6 speakers per Amp when paired with the Sonos by Sonance Hardwired speakers like the in ceiling Sonos by Sonance speakers or Outdoor Sonos by Sonance Speakers.
The Sonos Amp also allows you to use the Trueplay Sonos tuning feature when installed with Sonos by Sonance built in speakers. The older Sonos Connect: Amp does not allow you to use the Trueplay tuning with Sonos Speakers. If you only need to power 2 speakers like in a bathroom or small bedroom the Sonos Connect: Amp will do the job. If you are planning on powering more than 2 Speakers the best option is the Sonos Amp.
